Race Report Stage 1 - Cambodia

GlobalLimits Cambodia - The Ancient Khmer Path 6th edition commenced today with runners from 16 countries. The start is located in a local Buddhist temple in the Kamphong Thom province. Local monks blessed our runners before the race started and in return, we pay respect to the country and sing Cambodia’s national anthem „Majestic Kingdom“.

The race course extends northward towards the ancient capital of Angkor (Siem Reap) through the ancient Khmer Path. The runners will experience running through and spending overnights in ancient temples of the Khmer Kingdom, local villages, waterfalls and schools in the next 6 days.

Running through the heart of Cambodia’s network of waterways adorned with beautiful lotus sanctuary on the side is an enchanting experience. As it is a Sunday, local families and children came to cheer for our runners.

In today‘s 30,6km stage. Xavi Marina from Spain, who was also podium winner in Sri Lanka 2016, led the race and finished 2:22hrs. He was followed by first time GlobalLimits runner Isabelle Sauve from Canada who set an impressive speed from the start on and won the female category in a new female course record time of 2:39hrs. Michael Traub from USA followed closely and won the third place in this stage at 2:43hrs. Joined third mal were Benjamin Pralong from Switzerland and Tony Andrades from Spain. Second woman was 3rd time starter Teresa Lam from Hongkong and third Belinda van der Riet from South Africa.

All the runners arrived safely at our first camp in a remote village where they will share the traditional wooden houses with local families and prepare for tomorrow‘s 36km stage.
