Pre-race report 4th GlobalLimits Albania – The Hidden Treasure –

GlobalLimits is pleased to announce our second race in the year - GlobalLimits Albania - The Hidden Treasure. It is to take place between 11 - 19 September 2020, starting in the city Berat, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is famous for its spectacular view of Ottoman style houses and "the thousand windows".

In this extraordinary time, GlobalLimits has taken special measures to ensure the safety and health of our runners, teams and the local communities. Our limited number of runners from 12 different countries will be staying in their own tents and our medical team monitoring their health and well-being before and during the race.

On top of health and safety measures, GlobalLimits is dedicated to deliver a fun and exciting race. The winning brothers in last year's race, Alfred and Gezim Gaxhja (Albania), are returning to defend their titles. If Alfred wins, he would be the first GlobalLimits male runner winning the same race for two consecutive years.

In that case, Alfred must defend against his own brother and also William McMillan (UK), who was second in Bhutan 2015. What are the difference in the mountains of Albania than those in Bhutan?

On the other hand, would Samuel Castela from Portugal, who was the secomd ranked of Cambodia 2019, recovers from his injury fast enough to really run competitive? However, it is certain that his wife, Fillipa, is one our of favorites to the podium in the female category. Both Samuel and Fillipa are winners and world class athletes of the Spartan races.

We do hope that Fillipa would not cause worry to Christina Khinast from Austria, who was 6 times on the podium in 6 GlobalLimits races and the winner in Albania 2019.

But again, this is the race of the hidden treasures; and one never knows who has the secret endurance in a multi-stage race!

It is a pleasure of GlobalLimits to welcome Wojtek Machnik from Poland, to our race. Wojtek is the world record holder for running the most marathons in different countries in one year and for completing 100 marathons in 100 countries in the fastest time!

Last but not least, Carlos Llano from Spain will receive the "GlobalLimits Heritage Site Runner" series award upon completing this race – he has completed two other qualified GlobalLimits races in Cambodia and Bhutan.
