Breaking News - Final Race Report - Sao Tome
Through running along beautiful coastlines, walking through untouched jungles, stumbling through rocky paths and passing local villages with smiling locals calling out, “Forza! Forza!”, the runners of the second GlobalLimits São Tomé - The Hemisphere Crossing - a 6-days, 200km challenge from north to south and across the island, finally reach the finish line at the island of Rolas today, and cross the finish line on the Equator. The weather has been kind to our group and we are delighted to announced that several course records were broken; and that our local runners, who had never done a multi-stage race, have all finished with smiles on their faces. The runners had to compete hard for podium places with strong local runners and international athletes. The final results are: Samuel Castela from Portugal is the overall champion in the male category and Benjamin Rodgers from the UK took the second place.. Guilleume Taufflieb from France took the third place with an impressive 61 minutes faster than last year. At the lady’s side, Filipa Castela from Portugal made course record in almost every stage and finished the stages in a total of 21:40hrs Her winning also means the making of the first GlobalLimits champion couple with her husband Samuel Castela. Multi-stage race rookie Carolina Silva, also from Portugal, took the second place with her impressive pace and Teresa Lam from Hongkong is the third. The achievements of all our runners will be recognised tonight at the award ceremony of the beach resort Praia Inhume. We thank sincerely our local teams, who worked tirelessly to make sure the race ran smoothly and successfully. We also thanks for the support of the minister of Sports, Mr Vinicio Pins, and local businesses supporting us with tents (cst telecommunication), locally produced premium water Bom Successo, premium quality coconut oil Valudo, and delicious bread and cakes from Padaria in São Tomé city. GlobalLimits is grateful for all and we hope this race brings all our finishers and supporters beautiful memories of the event and the lush, unique island of São Tomé. Special thank to the author of one of the best guide book of São Tomé, Kathleen Becker, and Tiziano Pisano of Mumcimbli Explorer who have great passion and live of the island. Without their knowledge, experience and passion for São Tomé, this race would not be possible. The 3rd edition of GlobalLimits São Tomé is set for 17 - 26 February 2022. Registrations will open on 31 July. Race result, photos, and daily race report available at www.global-Limits.com; Instagram @globallimits_running; and Facebook @GlobalLimits.
