Breaking News - Race Report Stage 1 - São Tomé

After a quiet, peaceful evening in the first camp in the once largest plantation in São Tomé, Agostinho Neto, the participants of the second edition of GlobalLimits São Tomé - The Hemisphere Crossing are ready to start their epic challenge.

The first stage is 36,9km - and the runners will have a glimpse of the landscape and some histories of the island. They passed a black sand beach, local villages, and beautiful lush forests.

The finish line is in the mountain village of Monte Cafe, once the largest coffee plantation in the heart of the island. At the moment, the village still house a coffee museum. We are grateful that the villagers allow us to stay at their kindergarten, where our runners can recuperate from the first stage.

The winning male is Saõ Tomèan Kinderly Batista followed by Portuguese runner Samuel Castela. The third place went to local runner Luzizildo Dias. In the lady’s race, ultra rookie Carolina Silva from Portugal made an impressive start and finished first today, followed by Austrian Christina Khinast. The third place went to Teresa Lam from Hong Kong.

Tomorrow is a shorter stage of 31km heading towards the south, to the flower garden of Pousada Bombaim.
