Breaking News - Race Report Stage 4 - Sao Tome
We quietly farewell our hosting villages this morning - our first group of runners start this stage at 0530am. The long stage is 58,9km long, along the southern coastline and jungle of the island. Our runners will experience São Tomé’s deep jungles, plantations, ocean boulevards, and local villages. The weather is perfect for running, not too hot and humid with some rain showers in the jungle.
Another impressive run by British runner Benjamin Rodgers winning the stage in a new course record time of 5:59hrs. Second was again Samuel Castela from Portugal followed by Guillaume Taufflieb from France.
Samuel Castela defended his leading overall position. Now in Second is Benjamin Rodgers and 3rd still local runner Ineias Almeida.
Filips Castela won the female category in another course record time of 6:21hrs. Second was Carolina Silva, also from Portugal and third Teresa Lam from Hongkong.
Filips overtook the overall lead. Carolina is now in second and Christina Khinast third.
The time difference of the leading male and female runners is quite small, so we expect a thrilling battle in the overall rankings at tomorrow’s stage 5.
to our American runner Brent Weigner who today run an ultra in his 185th country, what is another Guiness Book world record.
Tomorrow our group will run across to the southeast of the island and arrive at the famous swimming pool beach - the Praia Piscina, where they will prepare for the final stage of the race.
