Breaking News - Race Report Stage 2 - Bhutan
The second stage with total 29km passing the deep mountain of Bhutan to the Thimphu Valley - the runners went 19km uphill to the top of the 3400m high Senchula Pass, special thanks to our volunteers and porters that hiked up in the dark in the previous night with waters and other supporting equipment and waited under the starry sky to greet the runners today. After the 19km uphill, the runners ran 10km downhill to the next camp in a local farmhouse.
Speed was set another time by Argi Papathanasopoulos in 4:13hrs ahead of Swiss runner Peter Osterwalder in 4:51 hrs. Impressive performance today from Swiss Karl Alpiger who finished the stage in 3rd just 36 seconds behind Peter.
Top woman was again French Véronique Messina in 5:09hrs. Second again was Véronique Chamberland in 5:32hrs. Third today was German Cristina Ogniben running an impressive speed uphill.
Tomorrow's stage 3 of 28km brings the runners up to the most spectacular camp, the Phajoding Monastery in 3600m, where runners share a room with the young monks.
