The 2nd edition of GlobalLimits Bhutan - The Last Secret -ended last weekend at the Taktshang Goemba, known as the Tiger’s Nest monastery, hanging in the cliffs at an altitude of 3000m with an outstanding view of the Paro valley. The race started at the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan, the Punakha Dzong with an emotional start ceremony with 500 students singing the national anthem of the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Lama of the Monastery blessing the runners. 35 runners from 16 different nations experienced an amazing landscape, ran through evergreen prime forest, passed amazing monasteries and immersed themselves in the traditional Buddhist culture. 91% finisher quote after 200km and 10.000 ascent is an outstanding achievement of all participants. Just 3 runners only have failed to finish one stage but finished all other stages. A very emotional awardceremony took place in the afternoon where the winners trophies were presented by his excellencies the Minister of Communication and Information and the Minister of Finace of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Mark Tamminga from Canada was the overall winner ahead of Hong Kong-based British runner Paul Brady and Masanao Kobayashi from Japan. Female winner was British diplomat Georgina Ayre ahead of Canadian Joany Verschurren and Christine Horner. Outstanding performance from the french/morrocan running legend Karim Mosta, who finished 5th despite a painfull injury at the last 2 stages. The most inspiring performance was shown by 74 year old American runner Hans Schmid who finished 12th overall.
