Pre-race report and Latest Note from the Trail
The countdown is on! This Sunday, 14 September at 07:00 AM, runners will set off from Theth, Albania, to begin the inaugural GlobalLimits Peaks of the Balkans - Albania/Kosovo/Montenegro. Over six stages, the course covers 200 km with an impressive 12,400 meters of elevation gain, crossing rugged alpine passes, lush meadows, deep valleys, and traditional shepherd villages. This is a race that combines physical challenge with cultural immersion and raw natural beauty - and warm hospitality in local guesthouses (breakfast included, of course!). They will also be crossing the three borders many times!
We’re thrilled to share that the race is now fully booked, with athletes arriving from 22 countries. And history is being made: for the very first time, a runner from El Salvador joins a GlobalLimits event!
This year’s start list reads like a hall of fame: 12 former podium finishers with a combined 25+ GlobalLimits podiums between them. It promises to be one of the most competitive editions yet!
But we'll be keeping an eye on everyone to ensure everyone has a good time and stays safe. As we mention in every pre-race report, you never know where the next hidden talent might emerge!
On 19 September, the race concludes at one of the most stunning finish lines imaginable: the historic church in Theth, set in the heart of the Albanian Alps.
The stage is set. The champions are ready. And the Peaks of the Balkans are waiting.
Let the adventure begin!
