Race Report Stage 5 - Cambodia
Today's 5th stage of 45,1k started at 6am at the Kulen Waterfalls and brought the runners a long 12k downhill to the first checkpoint. On their way down the enjoyed a spectacular view down from the mountains to the wide landscape of Cambodia. After passing local villages, palm tree alleys and paddy fields runners had to climb up steeply to the Ta Aek temple ruin and down on the other side again. Finish today is in a local school where runners stay over night in tents.
Winner of the stage was British runner Thomas Watson. Unfortunately overall leader Jill Hamill took a wrong turn but still have finished the stage as second. Second man today was Austrian Johannes Mohr ahead of second female Femi Coppi.
Excellent performance today by German Stefan Kapellen who finished fifth and jumped into the top ten overall.No changes in the overall ranking with Jill Hamill still in lead overall. Second female still Femi Coppi ahead of Christina Khinast. In first male position still Thomas Watson ahead of Johannes Mohr and Dion Leonard.
Tomorrows final stage will lead the runners through the Angkor area before finishing inside the World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat.
