Bhutan - stage 5
The penultimate stage of the Last Secret of Bhutan was the longest of the week. 53.5 km offering the first view of the cliff-face Tiger´s Nest Monastery to tired runners. The course started in Paro with a split start. The fastest 8 runners started an hour after the rest. Several runners found reserves of energy including Ben Grayell, a teacher from Queensland Australia who came back from very painful toes yesterday to running most of the day coming in 23rd place. Anna Chernova (Russian-British) ran a very strong day having been steadily moving up the field all week. She finished in 17th place. Haruki Minaki (Japan), fueled at checkpoints by hastily assembled sushi rolls, came in strong again at 9th place. Final mention of the day goes to the petite but super fast Marcia Zhou who finished as first female and in third place overall, changing the ranking of the top three women for the week so far.
Isabelle DuFour remains in first place, four minutes ahead of Marcia who is 15 minutes ahead of Chloe Onofrychuk in third place. There was no change in the men´s top three with Mo Foustok in lead ahead of William McMillan and Chris Hum.
The race is on to Tiger´s Nest tomorrow to the finish.
