Breaking News - Race Report Stage 4 Sri Lanka
Today’s long stage of 52,4km guided the runners through a wide variation of terrain, deep forest, grassland, gravel roads, streams where the locals make the daily washing and paddy fields before ending the stage in a local village. Runners again stay with the house owner’s family at their home.
After heavy rainfall in the previous night runners where not only faced again with heat but also high humidity.
Another great victory again by Nathan Montague today, winning the stage in 5:12hrs. Second today was Spanish runner Xavi Marina who nearly closed the gap to Nathan by finishing just 12mins behind him. 3rd today was David Mora who ran most of the stage together with Xavi. In general it was an impressive performance by the 4 Spanish runners, who finished all in the top 7. As well as Xavi and David it was Tony Andrades and Jaume Teres Costa.
Impressive performance today from Ash Balachandran finishing the stage as 9th and is now 11st overall.
As usual the ranking was in the female category, seeing Christina Khinast ahead of Sophiethida Kond and Maria Rotger.
In the overall ranking Xavi Marina is now second behind Nathan Montague and third David Mora. Local top class runner Sanath bandara had to be disqualified after using a motorbike.
No change in the overall female ranking. Christina Khinast still in a comfortable lead ahead of Sophithida Kong and Maria Rotger.
Tomorrows stage 5 is planned with 31km.
