Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan lies at the center of the ancient Silk Road network. It is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world. Although the majority of the population is Uzbek, with a rich history and diverse geography, the country is also home to people from various ethnic groups, speaking different languages, and practicing different religions.

We can also experience the rich heritage of diversity through Uzbek cuisine. From the ubiquitous bread (Non) to savory plov (Pilaf), hearty mutton dishes, and flavorful somsa (similar to Samosa), each bite tells a story of Uzbekistan's culinary tradition. Don't miss out on the comforting taste of homemade yogurt, salty cheese balls (Uzbek kurt, and satisfying dumpling like Manti.

Green tea holds a special place as the national beverage, and it's a common sight to see families and friends gathered around a pot of green tea on a tapchan - a traditional wooden divan, or day bed - especially during the summer months.

The geography of Uzbekistan is diverse, ranging from the flat desert topography that comprises almost 80% of the country's territory to mountain peaks in the east reaching about 4,500 meters (14,800 ft) above sea level. The vast Qizilqum Desert (Turkic for "red sand"), shared with southern Kazakhstan, dominates the northern lowland portion of Uzbekistan.
